What is TAPU (TAPU) in the Republic of Türkiye?
TAPU is a legal document of ownership of a property.
TAPU is the main and only document confirming that the sale and purchase transaction has been completed. The buyer is recognized as the legal owner of the property after receiving the TAPU.
TAPU is issued by the Regional Offices of the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre (Tapu Kadastro Genel Müdürlüğü). The State Cadastral Service fixes the status of real estate and the rights to it, is the guarantor of the legality and legal purity of the transaction, since it is regulated at the legislative level.
TAPU gives the absolute right to own real estate, which cannot be challenged after the ution of a real estate purchase and sale transaction in Turkey.
The owner of real estate is considered to be an individual or legal entity whose name is written directly on the TAPU. Underage children can be entered in TAPU. The TAPU act is certified with a stamp and transferred to the archive.
TAPU contains data on the location of real estate (address - province, district, street), registration data of the object in the register of the cadastral department, its number, characteristics of the object (house number, apartment number, , area), estimated value in national currency - Turkish lira , personal data of the former and future owner of the property.
All documentation reflecting the fact of the completion of the purchase and sale of a property in Turkey is stored in the archives of the Registration Chamber of Real Estate and the General Directorate of the Land Registry and Cadastre of the Republic of Turkey.
